The new BMW G 650 GS expands BMW Motorrad's GS family. In conjunction with its relatively low weight and low seat height represents the single-cylinder enduro entry not only in the passion of motorcycling, but also in the GS world.
Technically, the makers of the new G 650 GS relied on the proven foundation of the F 650 GS with single-cylinder drive. The liquid-cooled single-cylinder with dual overhead camshafts has a displacement of 652 cm3, provides 35 kW (48 hp) at 6,500 rpm and 5,000 rpm develops a maximum torque of 60 Nm. As an optional accessory is a power reduction to 25 kW (34 bhp) at 6,500 rpm and 47 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm.
The single cylinder with electronic fuel injection, dual ignition, a high geometric compression ratio of 11,5:1 and regulated catalytic converter is designed for high efficiency and environmental compatibility. Consumption is specified with only 3.2 liters per 100 km at constant 90 mph.
The chassis of the new G 650 GS was designed with emphasis on the country roads. To use an agile chassis comes with a bridge made of steel tube frame and a bolted rear frame. While the front wheel control is taken over by a rigid fork, rear swing arm is working from a solid square steel profiles in conjunction with a hinged central spring strut.
In addition to excellent stability up to top speed of 170 km / h (derated 145 km / h) BMW promises for the road trip a "playful handling. Adequate suspension travel to ensure a comfortable ride and responsive off-road capabilities, but nevertheless low seat height.
In each case, a disc brake brakes front and rear of the machine put in motion from strongly. This can be as special equipment as standard ABS is available for use off-road.
