NHTSA has launched investigations into about 1.8 million pickups and SUVs from GM for corrosion problems that can cause malfunctions in braking. The models affected were built between 1999 and 2003 and sold in all 20 states in the "Salt Belt". NHTSA recorded 761 complaints, 26 accidents and three people injured. The models included in the crosshairs 2002-2003 Cadillac Escalade, 2002-2003 Chevy Avalanche 1500 and 2500 Avalanche, 1999-2003 Chevrolet Sierra, Silverado and Suburban and the Tahoe and Yukon 2000-2003. In March 2010, NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation of 6 million units.
