You guys are imposing here you know? This is a discussion about shortages due to the earthquake not manufacturing locales for apple. An earthquake could have hit the states as well...

I wish all software was handled through a single entry point, like the App Store. That way updates are handled through it, instead of a series of unrelated and often annoying separate updaters. Never understood why this wasn't more of a priority 5+ years ago, even.

I hope this means an increase in resolution of iTunes artwork. I know it's unrelated to the OS but one can hope!

Perhaps you need to actually look at an iPhone 3GS and a Galaxy Tab sometime.

Wow. I think you missed the point. At 1199, the MacbookPRO should have a discrete option...hell, POS HP's at 600.00 do.

Huh. This is really cool, but I'm not familiar with the brand...don't know if it's good, or even legitimate for that matter.

Still, it's cool to see someone finally offer it free. Windows has had multiple choices for a few years, so this is good news for OS X fans!

Sophos provides solutions mainly for large corporations. Its as legitimate as it can get. Whats good about is the small foot print their software takes. So its all business and no nonsense "turbo meters" etc. like with Intego Virus Barrier. Honestly I have no idea why they are giving away Home version for free. The business solutions are expensive. Then again if you really want to sell to corporations it makes sense to give people free home versions to gain presence and goodwill. After all those free Home version using people work in corporations...

now if apple can build a laptop that won't give me a first degree burn we're in business :cool:

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

So now BTL says that the shipment is coming in on 12-2. What happend to 11-11? How do you all feel about this? I personally am not sure if I should cancel or not.

You know, I was a lil mad at first when I saw that, but the facts are that Apple wasn't going to ship theirs until Nov 25th with a Dec 2nd estimated arrival date, and for saving $40.00 I'm willing to wait a few extra days.

And at this point.. like the previous poster said.. $87.00 is worth it for me when regular mounts without anything are around $40, so $87 is decent for bluetooth, GPS chip and cool look/setup.. however $120 ($130 when adding in tax) just isn't worth it in my opinion.

what are the apple guys gonna' do with the mac mini! Im in the market for one w/edu discount! I'm waiting boys! What processors would you think the mac mini will adopt? End of core solo?

I think the mini is the worst performing machine they have on the market [it does use the slowest processors]. I am expecting an accross the board upgrade [MB, MBP, iMac, mini]. At the very least, higher end Yonas in the mini. I can also see Apple making the mini a BTO model like the MBP. That really simplifies the order process for the customer.

yeah. except they forgot to put RAM in it...and the firmware is crap so far..and the battery last about...erm, 24 hours..and they wont support mac..ever!

RIM is going down, in 2011 Apple must release the iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile, then in 2012 launch the iPhone 5 World Edition and take over the world. They may need to build a few new factories too for the iPhone mini.

Too bad Android makers are basically giving them away to gain market share.

The people that are against apple here (and want the advertisement to stay) are the same people that are so against iAds. It's quite ridiculous. I find it extremely odd that a large company be a part of the jailbreak community to begin with. They could've used iAd and had much more success anyway. That theme is ugly. I don't want advertisements on my iphone if i jailbreak it. That's stupid. If i want a scion theme, there's probably 25 other people that have made better ones. So it's a moot point. Get your panties out of a wad.

I do give toyota props for having the balls to put something out on a jailbroken iphone. It's inventive and sneaky.

And this site has the most archaic, convoluted commenting sign-up/system I have ever seen. It should be abolished and replaced with Facebook Comments. How many distinctions of value are there really to be said about feature-limited Mac products anyway. Don't mistake this as a critique of Apple.

Come on Apple, that's just being cheap. Great, so let the user download the image and then what? Now they have to burn it to a DVD (probably a double-layer DVD too, which are a lot more expensive than a regular single-layer DVD). I love the App Store concept, but not for OS releases like this. And no way in hell am I using some "upgrade" option instead of a clean install.

Of course this is assuming it even does download it as an image file that could be burned to optical media. If not, then that would be even worse. I guess being able to run it off of a flash drive would be pretty awesome though, but somehow I don't see that happening either. In any case, I hope this doesn't catch on.

If I could just have a Mac tablet that I could type and write notes on for class, I'd be in heaven :)

Yeah, I think a tablet would be useful for taking notes in class, and would consider buying one if Apple released one. I've seen other students taking notes on Tablet PCs in class and it seems like it works well. However, I'm not sure that there's a huge market outside of students and some other narrow markets. Of course Apple has entered markets where others have been less than extremely successful and done well before, so who knows.

I think we will probably get an announcement about new designed MacBookPros at WWDC along with MacPro Desktops.

Rumor had it back in January that Apple wanted Intel to pre-release Merom chips to Apple for the MacBook Pro. Instead Apple was forced to rush to market a quick update to the PowerBook line using the Yonah processor.

My guess now is that Apple is going to finally get to roll out the new redsigned MacBook Pro for Merom. I bet that Apple gets away from the out-dated Aluminium/Titanium look and goes to the the smooth polished black, white, and silver look similar to the MacBook. I also bet it gets the updated keyboard, glossy display, etc like the MacBook.

My wife has the new MacBook and it is a really sweet machine to own. I think it is much better designed and easier to use than my PB G4 1.67 Mhz.

The easier HD, Battery/ memory access is well thought out. The screen is brilliant. The keyboard is much better than I expected. In addition the latchless closure works like a gem and is much more convenient than that crappy button latch on the MBPro. Also the metal look is getting ugly and outdated. It scratches easy, shows finger prints, and dust more. It is also not as forgiving of a short drop. Metal bends & breaks. Plastic absorbs and flexes.

Apple is ready to re-invent the MacBookPro and probably would have done it sooner except the chips weren't available.
