Dale Earnhardt Jr. made a splash Sunday at Daytona by winning the pole position for the Daytona 500 which will be held next Sunday. The driver for Hendrick Motorsports and wins his first career pole at Daytona, one pole position all the more symbolic than the Daytona 500 will mark the tenth anniversary of the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt father.
This pole Dale Jr. has caused the public hysteria that Daytona should not expect much. The darling of the public, which was the only one to rise above 186 mph on a lap, will start alongside Jeff Gordon for Hendrick first line exclusively. Generally Chevrolet has completely dominated the qualifying session, placing seven cars in the top-8.
The intruder is named Trevor Bayne. For his first Daytona 500, the young Ford driver slammed the third time the nose and the bard of the favorites for the qualifications.
